Spirit of Canada “AroundTogether” Celebrates 2,000 Crew Members
Toronto, Canada; August 01, 2005
The Spirit of Canada AroundTogether program continues to be a tremendous success and to date almost 2,000 Spirit of Canada crew members have put their name on the hull of the new Spirit of Canada. The goal is to have 10,000 names on the hull of the Open 60.
The AroundTogether program is a unique opportunity for individual and corporations to support Derek and Spirit of Canada by putting their names on the hull of the new Spirit of Canada Open 60 and race around the world with Derek. During the last race in 2002; when faced with what seemed insurmountable odds after pitch poling the Open 40 at Cape Horn and losing the mast, it was the 2500 names on the hull that wouldn’t let Derek quit. He didn’t want to let all those people down.
Additionally, more than half of the limited number of sailing positions on the Open 60 have been allocated. Twenty (20) sailing days have been set aside for corporate and individual sailing on Spirit of Canada after launch in 2006. This will allow 320 people to experience one of the fastest Open 60?s in the world. The Open 60 Class boats are considered the formula one?s of the seas. To date, over 183 of the positions have been sold.
The Spirit of Canada Team is celebrating the second 1,000 names in the AroundTogether program by randomly drawing one of these crew members? names and this person will go sailing on the new Spirit of Canada. The draw will take place August 30th , 2005.
Good Luck!
Take Care.
